How Long to Grill Chicken Wings

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Chicken wings are an often overlooked part of the chicken given their lack of meat content however, there is nothing better than succulent and juicy chicken wings coated and baked in the oven, grill or bbq. In fact, if you purchase a large chicken and detach the wings from the carcass you will have some fairly 'meaty' wings which are an excellent cut perfect for the bbq given their quick cooking times. But just how to to grill them perfectly?

Grilling chicken enables the fat to drain off and delivers you a delicate, crisp wing lacking excess fat. The true test in grilling chicken wings is the inevitable flare ups and burning. However, to resolve this, keep your grill to a medium flame/heat and turn the wings frequently to avoid burning. The total grilling time for chicken wings will be around 15 minutes with constant turning to avoid burn marks.

A good chicken wing cooking tip is to simply place them on a baking tray and cook in a medium to high oven for 20 minutes (turning once) before allowing them to cool slightly to allow you to brush on some tasty BBQ sauce. You can then introduce your wings to the grill and giving them around 3-4 minutes on each side on a medium grill to finish off the cooking and sealing the sauce into the wings.

A great chicken wing recipe is provided for you below to accomplish just that!

Honey & Mustard Chicken Wings Ingredients

1 x tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 x small Onion, chopped as finely as you can get it
2 x cloves of crushed/minced garlic
2 x tablespoons of clear runny Honey
4 x tablespoons of tomato sauce/ketchup
4 x tablespoons of Worcester sauce
2 x teaspoons of Mustard
2 x teaspoons of Tabasco sauce (use less or more according to you liking)
8 x chicken wings (remove the very tips at the joint)
2 x tablespoons of plain Flour seasoned liberally with salt & pepper

1. Preheat the oven to 210C.
2. Cook the onion and garlic in a frying pan on the hob for 3 to 4 minutes until softened and translucent.
3. Blend in the honey, tomato and Worcester sauces and then the mustard and Tabasco sauce. Simmer over a very low heat stirring for around a minute.
4. Coat the chicken wings in the seasoned flour and spread the sauce plentifully.
5. Arrange the sticky chicken wings on a non stick (if you have one) baking tray and cook in the oven for 20 to 30 minutes until golden and cooked through.

Outdoor Summer Party Ideas - Tips For Hosting a Barbecue

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Barbecuing during the summer months is a tradition that many people look forward to all year long. Between the great food, good company and casual atmosphere, it's no wonder that barbecues are popular.

Now that the weather is warm, it's time to host your own summer barbecue. By following these tips, you'll be able to host a party that your friends and family will be talking about for years to come.

You'll want to start your barbecue off right by planning it for a good time and day. Saturdays are a great day to host a barbecue, and you'll want to plan it for a time of day where it's not too hot. While lunchtime barbecues give you more time to hang out with your guests, it can be hot during that time of day. Anytime from 2 pm to 5 pm is a good time to start a barbecue, especially during the summer months when it gets dark late at night.

Send out invitations, or make calls if you've prefer to be less formal. If all of your guests are web savvy, try using an electronic invitation like those available at Evite.com. This way you'll be able to take a running inventory of who will be coming and who won't be able to attend. Make sure to have a backup date just in case you have some unexpected rain or the weather gets too hot.

Barbecue potlucks are very popular. If you decide to make your party a potluck, make sure to assign food to people. Generally, one side dish or dessert per person is expected. As the host or hostess, you should provide the meat and drinks. Think about your guests' likes and dislikes when it comes to your food choices. For a large group, hamburgers and hot dogs work well. Smaller groups would appreciate steak or chicken. Make sure to offer some grilled vegetables or veggie burgers if there are vegetarians in the group.

Activities are always popular at barbecues. Pools make for a lot of fun at summer gatherings, but if you don't have a pool there is still plenty that you can do to entertain your guests. Depending on the ages of the group that you are hosting, you can arrange anything from a (controlled) water balloon fight to classic outdoor games such as croquet or badminton.

Make sure to plan ahead for the comfort of your guests. If you won't have enough chairs or tables for everyone, rent some extras or ask guests to bring them. You can also provide for their comfort by placing citronella candles around your yard to ward off mosquitoes. Placing them around the perimeter of your yard will help keep the space bug free as the sun starts to go down.

Hosting a summer barbecue is a breeze if you plan ahead and keep your guests at the center of your plans. Getting together with family and friends in our backyard is a great way to create terrific memories that will last for years to come. Just follow these simple steps and you'll have a party to remember.

Is Barbeque Cooking Too Difficult?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Those of us who struggle to produce good quality meals from a barbeque may wonder whether cooking in this way is just too difficult. Is it even possible to produce great tasting food when cooking outdoors?

The answer is clearly that it is possible to have great food from a bbq. The reason why we know this is because professional chefs regularly produce beautiful meals in this way. So why does it seem to be so difficult for amateur cooks to replicate these meals?

Part of the reason is that we often fail to understand the way in which barbeque equipment works. This is is a big problem and isn't just confined to those who buy the latest top of the range Weber barbeques.

It's an issue for those of us cooking on charcoal or gas. If we don't understand how the equipment works and which parts of the cooking surface get the hottest then it is incredibly difficult to produce the right results.

There's clearly a need for a little bit of trial and error here. Before you next start to cook on your grill, spend some time looking at how it works and how the temperatures vary. Gaining a proper understanding will help you to cook better food.

One reason why professionals are able to provide food to a consistently high standard is because they've often had a lot of practice. This gives us another pointer to how we might expect to improve.

The more that we cook using barbeques, the more knowledge and experience that we gain. In essence, this is no different from any other form of cooking.

The key to producing better food is to know your equipment well and to be prepared to practice in order to gain more experience. As you become more experienced at cooking in this way, you'll find that you will also gain in confidence.

Before you know it, you'll be producing food to a high standard.

The Perfect Barbeque

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Have you ever cooked on a barbeque grill and had moans and groans all dinner long from your guests, friends or family? It is a satisfying experience especially when that constantly tells you how good everything tastes. I have been cooking special bbqs for friends and family now since the age of about sixteen and I have some useful tips to share!

Firstly you will need to invest in high quality meat. I personally never buy the cheapest cuts of meat, It's not that I can comfortably afford to buy expensive meat but the rewards are juicy. The more money you spend on meant typically the better it will taste.

First things first, Lets start with a simple steak potato and corn dinner. You will want to buy top quality steak meat to get the satisfaction of moans from your guests. I highly recommend sprinkling the steak in garlic powder and black pepper. You then want to put it in a dish and smother it with some sweet teriyaki marinade for a couple of hours. You will also want to stab a few holes in the steak with a sharp knife. To prepare your potatoes you need to wrap them in foil, but before you encase them you want to put a drop of oil, some seasoning salt, black pepper and one main herb, I use rosemary or thyme. When preparing your corn you want to give it a small layer of butter, salt and a tiny bit of black pepper.

When cooking the potato will need at least an hour and try to have a lid on the grill for the first 30 minutes before you put the corn in. The corn will need between 25-30 minutes. The steaks will need 20 minutes.

Once you start cooking the steaks and you have taken them out of the teriyaki soaked dish and cooked the first side you want to dip the cooked side back into the marinade to cover again. Do this with both sides after you have cooked them again. Make sure the fat and meat is well seared. Then simply unwrap the corn, potatoes and place a steak on the plate and voila, A beautiful steak barbeque that people will love!

Landmann Rocket Roaster Dutch Oven Review

I've owned two of these for quite some time now...I inject the Turkey the night before just like I do for our Cajun Deep Fried...Rub down the outside with Cajun Spices...Then I use a "Turkey Sitter" filled with plenty of peeled garlic cloves and beer to mount it instead of the holder provided...One full bag of Matchlite Charcoal and then about 3~4LBs of regular after an hour or two...JUST three hours and you'll have the juiciest and most flavorful bird you can imagine...Deep mahogany colored...Note: I make a wire handle, going under the wings to use as a "Lifter"...Guests are always amazed to see you lift out a full cooked bird...13~14LB birds are best...

Cheap Barbecue Party Food Ideas - Get Invited to Every Party

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It doesn't have to cost you a lot of money to make your barbecue memorable. Remember -- most people expect burgers and potato salad. So any different food is good. And if you follow our cheap barbecue party ideas you can impress your guests for not a lot of money.

First off I must state that there is absolutely nothing at all wrong with burgers and potato salad. I love them both and all weekend griller's bbq parties should have a good selection of these and other basics. But just a few other cheap barbecue party food ideas during planning can save your food -- and your parties -- from boring repetition.

Here are five cheap and easy food ideas you can try immediately to make you next bbq party memorable and fun:

1) One word -- Condiments! Everyone has mustard and ketchup. Occasionally you see a lonely bottle of Frank's. But for very little money or effort you can add a rainbow of taste to your table and impress your guests. Visit a specialty store or good supermarket and pick up some bottles of unusual bbq sauces or hot sauces for the table. Do not just paint the meat on the grill -- give your guests a choice on the table. Today's BBQ and hot sauces come in a wide variety of flavors and heat levels and there is something for (almost) everyone. Consider the food you are serving and other sauces that may complement it. If you are serving chicken consider a white BBQ sauce or horseradish sauce. If you are serving fish consider a sweet Barbeque sauce or a Vietnamese or Japanese fish sauce.

2) Salsa -- Not just for corn chips anymore! Several years ago salsa took over the number-one-selling condiment spot in the US from ketchup but most people still think of it as just a dip for chips or a covering for Mexican foods. Salsa is -- and can be -- so much more. Consider visiting a Farmers' Market or specialty food store the morning of the barbecue and picking up a fresh salsa. Or better still, yet spend a little time the night before the party and make a batch of homemade salsa. It's really very easy. And don't just stick to the basic tomato/pepper salsa -- be brave and try a fruit or a veggie based salsa. Choose your salsa based on the meat and vegetables you will be serving and invite your guests to cover these foods for a new taste experience.

3) It's almost embarrassing how much good will and praise can be produced by a simple salad. As cheap BBQ party ideas go, this is one of the best. Everyone does potato and macaroni salad. Ask your friends to bring a dish and you'll probably get 3 of each. You can impress everyone to no end by making up a colorful and easy pasta or fruit salad that not only looks great but tastes great, too. Add some items off the grill into it at the last moment for an unforgettable touch.

4) Sides -- Go beyond the salad! So you've brought your impressive (though cheap) salad. But now think beyond to other side dishes. What springs to mind? If you are like most people - corn on the cob comes to mind. There is nothing wrong this. But to really impress your guests think of adding one or two other unusual sides that will complement the main course. And remember that sides don't have to be just veggies. Think of the possibilities of fruits, shellfish and even meats.

5) Desserts - Why not use the fire? Okay, you gotta have a dessert. You'll probably want something cold (homemade ice cream, maybe?) and some sweets for the kids. But since the fire is still warm why not consider really impressing your friends by making an additional dessert or two on the grill. Make homemade ice cream (always a reasonably cheap choice) AND grilled dessert to go with it and you will be considered a party god for many years.

Since most BBQ parties feature the same basic foods, these cheap party food ideas will help any weekend griller to impress their guests. Do it well and your friends will invite you to every party and beg for an invitation to yours.

Top Tips For Healthier and Safer Barbecuing This Summer

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Choose leaner cuts of meat -

Choose fish instead of red meat and remove the skin from chicken before grilling if you want to reduce the amount of fat you're eating. If you are stuck on red meat then fillet, sirloin, top round and flank steaks are naturally the leanest cuts. Game meats such as venison are also a good alternative to red meat, they're just as tasty but contain much less fat.

Use a marinade -

grilling at high temperatures can cause carcinogenic heterocyclic amines (HCAs) to form on the meat if it is well done. Using a marinade that contains lemon, honey, garlic or onions which are all antioxidants will slow the formation of HCAs. The best thing to do is always keep an eye on your food while it's on the barbecue and constant baste the food to keep it moist and stops it burning and producing carcinogens, not to mention your meat will be much nicer once it is done!

Make sure you don't overcook -

It is essential that you don't burn your food not just because it won't taste as good but because burnt meat produces carcinogens as we mentioned above. Once meat hits 212 degrees these compounds begin to form so try use a meat thermometer where possible. Beef is cooked once the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees and chicken at 170 degrees. Another tip is to precook everything in the oven then just use the barbecue to quickly char grill the outside quickly.

Keep an eye on temperature as well as the food -

If you're using a gas barbecue then make sure you use a moderate heat so as not to cook the food too quickly or you risk burning the outside and not cooking it all the way through. The same applies for charcoal barbecues as well but use your hand to test the heat by holding it about 5 inches above the grill. Count the number of seconds your able to hold it there for; if you can hold it for five to seven seconds then this suggests a medium heat ideal for cooking.

Weber 7555 Premium Cover for Weber Summit 600-Series Gas Grills Review

This is a heavy duty cover that fits the Summit 600 series of grills. I shopped the web and local stores. The first problem is finding a cover to fit these large grills, even the extra large covers at the local barbecue stores weren't large enough. This cover fits perfectly, which is what you would expect, and has large velcro straps on either side which tighten under the side shelves to hold down the cover in strong winds. I didn't buy this when I purchased the grill, although I saw some other reviews recommend getting the cover. For what the grill costs this cover is a "MUST".

Picnic Time Portable Folding Sports Chair, Camouflage Review

Our daughter plays club volleyball. More often than not there's no seating at the tournaments for spectators and you're there all day long. We had the typical folding chairs that you can purchase anywhere. (You know the ones.) However, those were uncomfortable to use for long periods. You sit so low and the frame eventually starts cutting into your circulation. Being older, these just weren't comfortable. I found these folding sports chairs on Amazon and purchased two last Fall. We absolutely LOVE them! The seat is roomy, firm and sits high enough that you don't feel like you're climbing out of a hole when you get up. The little table and storage pockets means you don't have to keep everything on your lap or on the floor to have it handy. We've also used them at outdoor events, i.e., local music venues, etc. Everywhere we go, people want to know where we got them. I would highly recommend these chairs.

Picnic Time Portable Folding Sports Chair, Camouflage Feature

  • Picnic Time Portable Sports Chair
  • Made of durable polyester with padding for extra comfort; chair holds up to 300 pounds
  • Sturdy aluminum frame and adjustable shoulder strap
  • Attached accessories panel includes a variety of pockets to hold items such as cell phones, sunglasses, magazines, or a scorekeeper's pad
  • Convenient side table folds out and will hold up to ten pounds of weight, making it perfect for holding food or drinks
